Chief of Sustainability Programs and Operations

Responsible for guiding and collaborating with county departments and facilities, municipalities, and businesses to promote and enact sustainable operations with a goal towards reducing Mercer County’s carbon footprint.

Duties:

  • Assist in preparation and implementation of an environmental sustainability plan for Mercer County government.  Plan will include “greening” of county facilities and operations, research, development and implementation of sustainable practices throughout county government, including county motor fleet, purchasing practices, energy purchase and usage, educating staff on sustainable daily work practices, and other programs with the goal of reducing Mercer County Government’s carbon footprint.
  • Serve as a resource to agencies, departments, municipalities and organizations interested in initiating sustainability projects.
  • Outreach to Mercer County businesses to provide information and guidance in implementing and/or improving their business sustainability plans and practices.
  • Assist in development of strategies aimed at attracting and encouraging growth of green collar industry in Mercer County.
  • Serve as Mercer County liaison to the Mercer County Sustainability Coalition – a group of green team and environmental committee members from various Mercer municipalities meeting monthly to share best practices and resources.
  • Explore potential grants and other funding sources for sustainability programs; prepare funding application requests.
  • Complete and submit biannual reports regarding sustainability efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of governmental sustainability policies, programs and best practices.
  • Ability to identify and analyze information pertaining to energy audits of governmental facilities.
  • Excellent research and writing skills; previous experience, whether educational or professional, in researching and/or implementing sustainability policies and practices.
  • Ability to manage and administer projects and coordinate programs with departments, municipalities, organizations and other administrative offices.
  • Grant writing experience a plus.
  • Candidate must be a Mercer County resident within one year of permanent employment.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in sustainability-related field.  Three to five years work experience in sustainability field, preferably including interaction with governmental entities and/or programs.

Clerk Typist - Part Time

The Cooperative Extension Services of Mercer County is seeking a Part Time Clerk Typist to assist various programs including 4-H Development, Agriculture and Natural Resources (including the Master Gardener program), and Family and Community Health Services. Candidate must have strong interpersonal and communication skills. Candidates are also expected to possess excellent computer and time management skills. This is a part-time position (5-hours a day, M-F) with the flexibility to occasionally work a full day when needed.

Correctional Health Nurse

The Mercer County Correction Center is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to provide direct and indirect nursing care to our inmate population. This is a full-time position. Prospective employees must be available to work shifts in a 24-hour facility. All candidates must possess a valid New Jersey driver's license. Prior correctional experience is preferred but not required.

Parking Attendant (PT)

Position available for the County of Mercer, Department of Transportation & Infrastructure. Parking Attendant candidate to operate shuttle bus transporting passengers from Airport parking lots to Airport terminal. Candidate will be required to possess Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement. Previous bus or heavy duty vehicle experience preferred. Will be required to assist elderly and handicapped passengers as needed. Must be 21 years old with a clean driving record. Candidate must have strong interpersonal and communications skills, be able to read, write and compute basic math. Ability to interpret and apply transit system operating rules, regulations, policies and routes.

Salary Range $16.39 - $21.78 hour
Ability to works shifts and flexible schedules

Entry Level Law Enforcement (LEE) 

In order to be considered for employment in an entry-level law enforcement position, candidates must pass a written exam called the Law Enforcement Examination (LEE). Those who pass will remain in the eligible pool for two years. The pool of eligible candidates that results from the LEE will be used to fill positions for law enforcement titles in all Civil Service jurisdictions. Please contact the New Jersey Civil Service Commission with questions regarding the LEE.
